The Orlické Mountains are divided into three parts – Deštenská Highland, Mladkovská Highland and Bukovská Highland.

The Orlické Mountains are irrigated by the Divoká Orlice and the Tichá Orlice Rivers converging into the Orlice River at their confluence. Their most important tributaries are Zdobnice, Rokytenka, Bělá, etc.

The Orlické Mountains belong to a cool climatic area with extensive precipitation. There is snow cover for 120 to 140 days a year, the average January temperatures range between -3°C and -7°C.
